Public Relations / Sensibilization
The Gender Equality and Diversity Unit organizes and supports international conferences, congresses, meetings, talks and lectures as well as workshops and exhibitions at the University of Vienna. In doing so, the gender critical and sensible intervention into the public space is of particular interest. Especially important are those interventions which deal with questions of representation of women in academia and aim at making women's past and contemprary academic work more visible.
Two ongoing exhibitions that focus on the issue of representation of women and women scientists at the university are:
"Frauen leben Wissenschaft" ("Women live sciences")
In the course of celebrating 3 centennial jubilees of women’s integration into the university in 2007 a touring exhibition has been initiated in order to make women’s contemporary scientific work visible.
"Der Muse reicht's" ("The Muse Has Had It")
In an art project combining a huge shadow of a woman and two pedestals artist Iris Andraschek tackles the failure of the university to grant women equal rights. Link to the project website
