Women* in Science
Launched by the United Nations, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science aims to draw attention to the gender gap in STEM subjects. It is a day that inspires, challenges and shows how science can become more equitable.
Since 2009, the monument ‘The Muse has had it’ in the Arcaded Courtyard of the Main Building of the University of Vienna has been a symbol taking a stand against the invisibility of women in academia. The shadow silhouette of a woman is inlaid in the stone floor, raising her clenched fist into the air. It thus takes a stance against the male-dominated academic system. This silhouette is part of the Women in Science campaign visual of the University of Vienna.
